Apply to become a culinary apprentice. You will be connected with a Chef who will help you achieve your goals. Continue your education in culinary with a wide range of classes, within two years you will qualify for a sous chef certification through the American Culinary Federation.

When you start an apprenticeship, you are expanding your skills from a qualified expert while getting paid. Upon completion, you will be a certified by ACF as a certified sous chef.
You will expand your current skills through coursework and on-the-job training under direction by a chef. You will learn from a variety of classes while you acquire a professional work ethic to ensure your success in the culinary industry.
You will work under a supervising chef in an establishment known as a "sponsoring house." This may be a restaurant, hospital, hotel, or other food service facility. Your program coordinator should provide you with a list of approved local sponsoring houses and work with you as you become employed.
The required instruction is taught in a classroom setting and online.
Yes, you will need to be at least 18 years old, high school or GED graduate and either a graduate of a culinary program, or at least one year of experience in a culinary field.
As an apprentice, you will be employed by a sponsoring house and will work their required hours. While working you will take classes once a week. Apprenticeship is a full-time commitment.
ACF Registration - $275 - (Includes 3 year membership and access to ACF website, ACF events and Regional Monthly Meetings. Related instruction classes - $1000 (approximate) Classes include menu planning, culinary accounting, purchasing and receiving, beverage pairing and more. Apprenticeship Handbook - $5
The apprenticeship program will take between two and three years to complete.
